Hervey Bay ~ it just keeps
getting better!
Hervey Bay is one of the calmest and safest cities in Australia
offering a beautiful outdoor environment and easy access to world famous
eco-tourism areas.
With mild winters and an extensive coastline, Hervey Bay is an ideal
holiday destination. Hervey Bay's abundance of natural assets include
the Great Sandy Strait, World Heritage listed Fraser Island, the Bay
itself and the wetlands. It has a quality of life that balances work and
pleasure, and is a clean, safe city that is easily accessible.

Recognised as one of Australia’s fastest growing cities,
Hervey Bay’s population has grown from less than 30,000 people
in 1991 to almost 46,000 in 2003. It is estimated that by 2006
Hervey Bay’s population will be approximately 53,000.
Hervey Bay is
located only three and a half hours easy drive
(approximately 300 kilometres) from Brisbane, Queensland’s
capital city. It is only a short from Hervey Bay to Brisbane
or from Hervey Bay to Sydney. In addition to the regular
commercial flights, helicopter and fixed wing charter flights
are also available. The high speed Tilt Train links with
Brisbane to the south and Cairns in the north. Coaches provide
daily connections to all major destinations.
Hervey Bay City is also close to the many attractions of the Sunshine
Coast, the Heritage City of Maryborough, the South Burnett as well as
Bundaberg and the Coral Isles.
Hervey Bay City Council is a leading destination for people
with a disability. Shopfronts, streetscaping, beach access,
scenic pathways and public infrastructure are designed to be
easily accessible for people using wheelchairs or mobility
scooters.
Hervey Bay’s climate is perfect for outdoor activities. Water
sports, golf, cycling, horse riding, tennis, football, cricket,
basketball - whatever your favourite sport or recreational
pursuit you won’t be disappointed.
World-heritage listed Fraser Island is right on our doorstep.
The largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island is enjoyed
by over 300,000 visitors each year. With lush rainforest,
pristine lakes and streams and unique wildlife, Fraser Island
offers an eco-tourism experience unlike any other.
From the end of July until early November each year, the
magnificent humpback whales visit Hervey Bay for some rest and
recreation as they complete their migration back to Antarctica.
These gentle giants are curious to view the thousands of
whale-watchers who come to see their playful tail-slapping,
spy-hopping and breaching. Nowhere else in the world offers such
an “up-close-and-personal” encounter with the humpbacks.
The attractions that make Hervey Bay an outstanding holiday destination
also make it a wonderful place to live.
